11,000 people evacuated in Hainan Province after heavy rain fall

The provincial flood control authority announced today (Wednesday 8th) that over 11,000 people have been evacuated in Hainan Province after heavy rain deluged the island. 

The downpours which began on Monday have affected at least 46 townships. In Wanning city 78 villages were flooded, sections of the highway were impassable and schools were suspended yesterday. 

Rescue operations were needed to be carried out by police and fire fighters, access to some lowland areas is being restricted and a number of tourist destinations have had to close according to Xinhua.
