Popular non-alcoholic drink with a psychotropic drug banned

China’s Food and Drug Administration (CFDA) issued a notice last Saturday ordering an immediate ban of a popular beverage “Happy Water” from the brand Shine Bee, after discovering the drink contains a first class psychoactive drug. The drink, "kawa chaoyin," contains 4-hydroxybutanoic acid, a psychotropic drug that has been banned in many countries, as it can causes memory and in some cases may even be fatal. It is popular among teenagers in China and has largely been sold at KTV sites and online.

Authorities in Hainan Province have also put out warnings about this and other harmful drinks and police there are stepping up inspection at amusement venues.
