The Asia-Pacific Headquarters of the World Free Zone Organization is to be located in the economic zone of Jiangdong New District in Haikou City.
The World Free Zones Organization (World FZO) is a global not-for-profit organization that represents the interests of free zones around the world.
The World FZO was launched in Dubai, UAE, in May 2014, by its 14 founding members including the Shanghai Free Trade Zone, Dubai Airport Free Trade Zone and the American Industrial Free Zone.
At present, members of the World Free Zone Organization come from more than 100 countries and regions, and maintain long-term and stable cooperative relations with important international organizations such as the World Trade Organization.
Li Guanglian, Director General of the China Office of the World Free Zone Organization, said that in order to better serve the construction of the China Free Trade Zone, especially the Hainan Free Trade Zone and the Free Trade Port, the World Free Zone Organization Asia-Pacific Headquarters will be established in Haikou and committed to providing relevant services to promote the prosperity and development of relevant industries in China’s free trade zones as well as promoting two-way investment to achieve liberalisation, facilitation and global economic integration, and building Haikou into a window for future exchanges and cooperation between China and the world.
Li Guanglian also stated that according to the development plan, the World Free Zone will establish an administrative center for the Asia-Pacific headquarters of the World Free Zone in Haikou and undertake its part in establishing a world free trade zone gathering area to attract the world’s major free trade zones or related enterprises to set up operations as well as establishing the International Free Zone Research Institute, research and training of free trade zones as well as China’s Free Trade Zone standards and statistics office.
The plan also includes senior universities, institutions and experts in the joint free trade zone research field, the Free Trade Zone Hainan Open University, establishing a World Free Trade Zone Media Center and Information Portal, permanently establishing the World Free Trade Zone (China) Forum in Haikou and establishing the Free Trade Zone Development Fund.
