On December 25, at the Yangpu International Container Terminal, the one-millionth container was hoisted onto the “Feiyunhe” freighter.
From 500,000 TEUs in 2018 to 1 million TEUs in 2020, the container throughput of Yangpu has doubled its growth in two years.
TEU (twenty-foot equivalent unit) is an inexact unit of cargo capacity often used to describe the capacity of container ships and container terminals. It is based on the volume of a 20-foot-long (6.1 m) intermodal container (shipping container).
Yangpu Port was originally formed as a regional container centre and has since expanded internationally.
The port’s route framework has successively opened 33 domestic and foreign trade routes, among them, 14 are foreign trade routes.
Hainan’s first Yangpu-Australia intercontinental route has also opened, achieving full coverage of Southeast Asian countries including Vietnam, Singapore, Myanmar, Malaysia, Thailand, and Bangladesh.
There are 19 domestic trade routes connecting the Beibu Gulf, the Pearl River Delta, the Yangtze River Delta, North China, Northeast China and other domestic coastal ports.
A network of routes with Yangpu as a port of transhipment has also been established, successively opening Yangpu -Sanya, Yangpu-Basuo barge branch lines.
In the past two years, the average annual growth rate of Yangpu’s container throughput has reached 27.5% in year one and 42.5% in the second year.
To support the development of the container business and promote the economic development of domestic and foreign trade, the ports at Yangpu have focused on port services, improving port operational efficiency and optimizing business processes.
The average daily operation capacity of the port has rapidly increased from 3,000 TEUs to 5,000 TEUs.
The average stopping time of a ship at the port has been reduced from 25 hours to 16 hours.
3,000 TEUs from the “Haikou-Yangpu” route were added weekly to the capacity of Yangpu Port, a year-on-year increase of 32%.
Due to the online international “single window” platform, the entire process of cargo clearance is paperless, effectively improving the efficiency of cargo clearance.
As of December 25, the container throughput of Yangpu International Container Terminal exceeded 850,000 TEUs, a year-on-year increase of 71%, of which the volume of foreign trade containers increased by 247%.
The increase in container volume ranks in the forefront of the Beibu Gulf port group and even the national ports, providing decisive and important support for the overall breakthrough of the 1 million TEUs of Yangpu.
