What is TNR and how does it work?

Animals are humanely trapped, sterilized, vaccinated, ear-tipped (the tip of the ear is cropped — an international standard marking for sterilized animals), and returned to their familiar territory.

Why is it effective?

• Sterilizing 70–75%+ of a colony almost completely stops reproduction.

• In an 11-year University of Central Florida study, the cat population dropped by 66%, with zero new kittens born after the first 4 years.

• Sterilized animals fight less, stop marking territory, get sick less often and live longer.

• Ear-tipping allows everyone to immediately see that the animal is already sterilized and doesn’t need to be trapped again.

Sterilization of stray animals is the most effective and humane way to reduce the population of homeless animals, prevent suffering, and break the cycle of new generations on the streets.
