The relaunch of these flights comes hand in hand with the inauguration of the international terminal at Sanya Phoenix International Airport, marking a pivotal milestone in establishing a crucial aerial bridge connecting Hong Kong’s renowned international financial centre and the free trade port in Hainan.

Flights expected to promote stronger economic and trade ties between Hong Kong and Hainan.

Hong Kong, renowned as a major gateway to China and the world, boasts a well-developed transportation infrastructure comprising a world-class airport, seaport, and comprehensive road and rail networks. The reintroduction of daily flights between Hong Kong and Sanya, in conjunction with the newly established international terminal at Sanya Phoenix Airport, holds significant potential for the growth of the Hainan Free Trade Port.

Key areas in which the Hong Kong to Sanya route is expected to drive development of the free trade port include:

Facilitating Trade and Investment: The resumed flights provide an efficient and convenient transportation link between Hong Kong’s globally recognized financial hub and the Hainan Free Trade Port. This heightened connectivity has the potential to attract a greater influx of investors, businesses, and entrepreneurs, fostering increased trade and investment activities in Hainan.

Boosting Tourism: The renewed air connectivity between Hong Kong and Sanya is poised to invigorate the tourism sectors in both regions. With Hong Kong’s reputation as an international tourism hotspot and Sanya’s allure as a popular tropical destination, the restored flights are expected to attract a larger number of tourists and leisure travellers. This, in turn, is expected to benefit hotels, resorts, restaurants, and local businesses in both locations.

Cultural and Educational Exchanges: The revived air link offers a promising platform for cultural and educational exchanges between Hong Kong and Hainan. The ease of travel for students, researchers, and professionals between the two regions hopes to foster knowledge transfer, collaborative initiatives, and academic partnerships. This exchange of ideas and expertise holds the potential to contribute to the intellectual growth and development of both Hong Kong and Hainan.

Looking ahead: According to a spokesperson for Hong Kong Airlines, as the airline expands its flight frequency in the forthcoming months of July and August, passengers can anticipate an even broader range of travel options, further solidifying Hong Kong Airlines’ role in supporting the growth of the Hainan Free Trade Port and strengthening the enduring ties between Hong Kong and Hainan.
