About the Role
The BMC Series is a collection of community-focused, open access journals that cover all areas of chemistry, life sciences, health and medicine. The ethos of these journals is that editorial decisions are not based on the perceived impact or interest level of papers, but on rigorous science. The BMC Series is currently seeking an Associate or Senior Editor to lead a portfolio of medical journals. You will contribute to the success of this portfolio by working strategically with the journals’ external editorial boards to help drive the content development of these journals to ensure their future success, and adapt your strategies to meet the emerging needs of their related communities. Manuscript handling is a key part of this role. No prior editorial experience is required as full training is given, although applicants with significant editorial experience will be considered for a Senior Editor position. This is an exciting opportunity for someone looking to join a dynamic team of scientific editors whose values centre around the promotion of open, robust and reproducible science. This role is located in our Shanghai, Beijing or Nanjing office on a hybrid working model.
Role Responsibilities:
- Handling original research papers and managing all aspects of the editorial process, in liaison with the Editorial Board.
- Liaising with editors at other journals across Springer Nature and with experts in the international scientific community.
- Attending conferences and visiting research institutes to engage with the communities and to represent the journal.
- Engaging with the Editorial board of the journal.
- Commissioning and editing of Reviews, Comments and other invited articles.
- Contributing to journal strategy and editorial policies.
What you will be doing:
- PhD or equivalent.
- Broad scientific interests and a passion for science.
- An interest in open access publishing
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of editorial process and related matters.
- Ability to work in a team and with colleagues at all levels.
- Excellent time management and prioritization skills, and ability to balance short-term deadlines with long-term goals.
- Previous editorial experience is required for candidates applying for the Senior Editor position
