1. About us

The Center for Education, Innovation, and Sustainable Development (CEISD) at ShanghaiTech University is a research-oriented, global-perspective think tank established by the university. We are dedicated to addressing global challenges through innovation in the AI era, advancing the evolution of learning through education, and exploring optimal frameworks and policy portfolios for sustainable development and global governance.

Focusing on the AI interdisciplinary research with different domains of science, economy and society, with a methodology synergizing “data-driven” approaches with “first principles”, CEISD aims to provide solutions, policy frameworks and development strategies that are grounded in rigorous academic research and drive transformation with policy impact for a better future.

(1) Research Fellow / Associate Research Fellow

1. Key Responsibilities:

• Focus on major global challenges and frontier issues in the fields of education, innovation, and sustainable development, conducting original interdisciplinary research.

• Independently undertake and lead key research projects, managing the full lifecycle from problem definition and research design to result analysis and policy recommendations.

• Produce internationally influential research outcomes, including but not limited to in-depth analysis reports, policy briefs, and papers published in top-tier academic journals.

• Participate in building cooperation networks with top global research institutions, international organizations, and academic communities, and engage in significant international academic dialogues.

2. Requirements:

• Ph.D. in a relevant field (AI, Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physical Sciences, Life Sciences, Earth Sciences, Economics & Finance, Social Sciences & Humanities, etc.) from an internationally recognized university or research institution, with extensive independent research experience.

• Established excellence in the field with a proven track record of highly recognized representative works (e.g., highly cited papers, significant monographs, key policy reports).

• Possess the imagination and passion to define problems; dedicated to producing influential original results and capable of providing insights into global issues and designing frontier research pathways.

• Demonstrate a broad international perspective, interdisciplinary vision, and successful experience in leading complex research projects.

• Fluency in both Chinese and English (written and spoken).

• Deeply committed to the long-term development of humanity and driven by a desire to contribute wisdom to this cause.

(2) AI Scientist / Data Scientist

1. Key Responsibilities:

• As an expert in AI and Data Science, apply frontier algorithms (Reinforcement Learning, Deep Learning, Causal Inference, Generative AI, etc.) to model and analyze social, economic, and scientific problems to derive core insights.

• Develop and deploy innovative computational frameworks and analysis pipelines tailored to the think tank’s agenda; process large-scale, multi-modal data to extract decision-critical information.

• Responsible for producing high-impact research outputs; authoring high-level papers, reports, or data visualizations, and articulating core findings to non-specialist audiences.

• Collaborate closely with scholars in economics, sociology, and sciences to explore the optimal synthesis of technical possibilities and domain insights.

2. Requirements:

• Ph.D. in AI, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or related computational engineering fields from an internationally recognized institution.

• A track record of influential works recognized by international peers, including publications in top AI conferences or journals.

• Exceptional ability in problem abstraction, capable of deconstructing complex real-world issues and designing rigorous AI-driven analytical pathways.

• Excellence in programming and software engineering; proficient in Python and mainstream deep learning frameworks; extensive experience with large-scale datasets and deep research capabilities based on Large Language Models (LLMs).

• Strong passion and sense of mission for applying AI and data science to resolve major human challenges.

(3) Young Scientist / Young Research Fellow

1. Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct highly original interdisciplinary research focusing on major global challenges in education, innovation, and sustainable development.

• Apply data-driven research paradigms and computational social/natural science methodologies to uncover deep mechanisms behind complex problems.

• Collaborate closely with AI scientists and domain scholars to design and execute research projects, integrating domain insights with frontier technologies.

• As a core contributor, author internationally influential research works, including analysis reports, policy white papers, and publications in top-tier journals.

2. Requirements:

• Ph.D. (obtained or impending) in a relevant field from an internationally recognized institution.

• Demonstrated academic potential in core research areas with high-quality publications in renowned journals or conferences.

• Solid quantitative analysis skills and computational thinking, with practical experience in applying computational methods to key scientific problems.

• Openness to cross-disciplinary collaboration and effective communication skills across different technical backgrounds.

• Dedicated to producing original results with both theoretical depth and real-world impact.

• Fluency in both Chinese and English.

(4) Senior Data Engineer / Engineer

1. Key Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with researchers to architect data analysis frameworks and technical pathways for complex projects.

• Independently manage data tasks, including processing large-scale unstructured data, causal inference, and statistical/machine learning analysis.

• Lead the end-to-end programming implementation of core algorithms and models, ensuring the accuracy and robustness of analytical results.

• Explore and integrate new data sources and analytical methods to elevate the institution’s overall research capabilities.

2. Requirements:

• Master’s degree or above in Computer Science, Data Science, or related fields.

• Expert-level proficiency in data analysis and Python programming; deep, systematic understanding of statistics and machine learning.

• Proven success in leading complex, end-to-end data analysis projects; ability to translate ambiguous research questions into clear technical solutions.

• Mastery of SQL and experience handling diverse databases and large-scale datasets.

• Familiarity with LLM-based scientific data processing.

• Excellent communication skills, acting as a bridge between domain research and data science.

(5) Senior AI Application Engineer / Engineer

1. Key Responsibilities:

• Lead AI analysis modules within research projects. Utilize Generative AI and computational modeling for data processing, insight extraction, and scenario simulation; contribute to high-level reports.

• Act as the strategic bridge connecting frontier AI technology with research; lead the prototyping and engineering of AI research workflows; design AI-empowered research solutions.

• Continuously monitor emerging AI tools and platforms, rapidly assessing their potential for think tank research and converting them into actionable methods.

2. Requirements:

• Master’s degree or above. Interdisciplinary backgrounds (Data Science, Digital Humanities) or strong AI application capabilities in Economics/Social Sciences are preferred.

• Strong global understanding and logical critical thinking; ability to present complex AI results as insightful research reports.

• Deep experience with Large Language Model applications; proficiency in advanced Prompt Engineering and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG).

• Strong hands-on ability and rapid learning curve.

(6) Senior Manager / Manager, Project Management & Administration

1. Key Responsibilities:

• Oversee the full lifecycle of core research projects, from initiation and planning to resource coordination and delivery.

• Establish and maintain global cooperation networks to support international projects.

• Develop efficient project management processes; identify and mitigate risks to ensure timely, high-quality completion.

• Manage or participate in the promotion and dissemination of project outcomes.

2. Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree or above with 3+ years of complex project management experience in academic institutions, think tanks, or the high-tech sector.

• Profound understanding of academic or think tank operations; ability to support interdisciplinary teams effectively.

• Excellent organizational and communication capabilities; adept at prioritization in a fast-paced environment.

• Produce internationally influential research outcomes, including policy reports and top-tier journal papers.

• Participate in building global cooperation networks and engage in high-level international dialogue.

2. Requirements:

• Ph.D. in a relevant field from an internationally recognized institution.

• Outstanding academic record with high-quality representative works as a lead author (e.g., major research reports, key policy reports, high-level academic monographs, etc.).

• Imagination to define problems and dedication to producing original, influential results.
