Hainan, with its varying climatic zones, is home to a huge diversity of wildlife predominantly found in the rain forests. The Hainan moonrat (Neohylomys hainanensis) and Hainan flying squirrel (Hylopetes electilis) are indigenous to Hainan.
Chinese alcohol predates recorded history. Dried residue extracted from 9,000-year-old pottery shows that early beers were already being consumed by the Neolithic peoples in the area of modern China. Made from rice, honey, grapes, and hawthorn, it seems to have been produced similarly to that of Mesopotamia and Ancient Egypt.
Many types of tropical wood are used to manufacture furniture in Hainan. Yellow Flower Pear Wood (花梨木 Huali Mu) or Ormosia Henryi to give the species its Latin name, is native to the island. The fragrant wood’s attractive grain and extreme durability make it suitable for use in a wide variety of household furniture.
Even after the Li people acquired the skill of cotton spinning, bark cloth did not give way to cotton and hemp products. People continued to use bark to make mats, pillows, quilts, clothes, sashes and hats. The reasons for the continued popularity of bark cloth are many: bark as a type of raw material was, and still is, abundant and readily available in the area; the Li people had become skilled in making bark cloth; and objects made of bark cloth are very durable.
Sanya Baiyue Ethnic Culture Village is an authentic cultural park which has preserved a lot of cultural architecture, totem poles, statues, and paintings. There's a museum, Hainan drama, Lingao puppet show, Danzhou singing and other performances which showcase original Hainan culture.
Tianya Tropical Ocean World, with up to 8 shows a day it's the only large scale tourist attraction featuring ocean species. There are performances by dolphins, sea lions, and even crocodiles (that's what the brochure says)...
Binglang River Countryside tourism zone is a, as you've already guessed, a countryside vacation district. The focus here is on local culture, leisure, health and wellness. There's some beautiful tropical countryside and you can get to experience the local culture of the Li minority, try their food and experience their traditions.
, Orchid World Sanya is the worlds largest orchid theme park and it's situated in Tianya Town. The park is home to an estimated 3,000 species of orchid totaling over 2 million orchids in total, 300 of which are rare wild species. There are 8 scenic zones in the park, tree-growing zone, rock-growing zone, orchid corridor, wild orchid valley and 4 more.
West Island lies 7 km to the west of down town Sanya. With an area of just over 2.5 square km it's the second largest island in the area. With waters up to 20 metres deep in places it's a haven for marine life and there's a huge diversity of aquatic animals. Water sports, fishing, diving, water skiing etc. are all available.
