Haikou International Duty-Free City is expected to open to the public at the end of this year, according to a briefing held by the officials of China Tourism Group Duty Free Corporation.
The city covers 926,000 square meters, and already over 800 brands have confirmed their presence.
Chang Zhujun, the vice-general manager of the CTG Duty Free, said the company posted strong operational capacity and profitability even amid the COVID-19 pandemic, and it will introduce more brands to shopping malls, and continuously expand its sales channel both at home and abroad.
The Haikou Duty-Free mall project is located on the west coast of Haikou (on the east side of Xinhai Port).
The planned area of the project is 675 acres, and the total construction area is around 926,000 square meters with a total investment of 12.8 billion yuan.
After it is completed, the business area will be twice the size of the Sanya duty-free mall, and it will become the largest duty-free mall in Asia.
The project is composed of six plots including, tax-free commercial buildings, office buildings, service apartments, residential buildings, luxury hotels, and commercial streets.
