Good news for travelers in Hainan! The Hainan Provincial Department of Tourism and Culture, Radio, Television and Sports, in partnership with UnionPay, is giving away hotel coupons worth a total of 2 million yuan to encourage travel throughout the island.
These coupons are available through the “Cool Tour Hainan” (酷游海南) WeChat mini-program.
This initiative aims to extend the benefits of the Chinese New Year holiday and ensure a good travel experience for tourists visiting Hainan.
Who can get a coupon?
These hotel coupons are available to travelers throughout China who are registered users of the UnionPay “Cloud QuickPass” (云闪付) app and are in Hainan province.
What is UnionPay Cloud QuickPass?
UnionPay Cloud QuickPass (云闪付) is a popular mobile payment app in China, similar to Apple Pay or Google Pay. You’ll need it to claim and use the coupon. It lets you pay at merchants using your smartphone, transfer money, pay bills, and access promotions.
How to Get and Set Up Cloud QuickPass:
Check if You Have It: Look on your phone for an app labeled “云闪付 UnionPay APP” with the UnionPay logo. If you see it, you already have it installed!
If Not, Download It: If you don’t have it, go to your phone’s app store and search for “云闪付”. The official app is published by “中国银联” (China UnionPay).
Register an Account: You will need a Chinese phone number to register an account.
Add Your Bank Card: Link your UnionPay bank card(s) to the app.
Enable Location Services: Ensure the app has permission to access your location, as this is a requirement for using the Hainan coupon.
Important Notes About Cloud QuickPass:
Chinese Bank Card Required: Generally, you need a bank card issued by a Chinese bank to use Cloud QuickPass.
Language: The Cloud QuickPass app is primarily in Chinese.
Availability: Cloud QuickPass is mainly designed for use within mainland China.
How do I get the hotel coupon?
Follow these simple steps:
- Open WeChat and search: Search for the “Cool Tour Hainan” (酷游海南) mini-program.
- Find the Coupon Area: Look for the section titled “‘Cool Tour Hainan’ Mini Program Official Designated Coupon Collection Entrance” (“酷游海南”小程序 官方指定领券入口).
- Claim your Coupon: Click the “Claim Coupon Now” button (“立即领券 >”).
How do I use the coupon?
Make Sure You Have a Coupon: Follow the instructions to claim your coupon in the “Cool Tour Hainan” mini-program. Be aware that there are a limited number of coupons available, so they may be “sold out” (已抢完).
Once claimed, your coupon is valid for three natural days (including the day you get it). Check the “My – Coupons” section in the UnionPay app for the exact expiration date.
Important: coupons claimed after March 29th are only valid until 11 PM on March 31st.
Make sure you’re physically located in Hainan Province when you want to use the coupon. Also, make sure GPS and location services are enabled on your phone.
Use UnionPay App: You must have the UnionPay Cloud QuickPass app installed, and your phone’s location services must be enabled in Hainan Province.
Find Participating Hotels: Crucially, this coupon only works at participating hotels! In the UnionPay app (in the coupon details), look for a section that says “128 Stores Available” (128家门店可用). Tap on that to see a list of participating hotels.
Minimum Spend: Book a room at a participating hotel, and spend at least 100 Yuan in a single transaction.
Get a Discount: When you pay, show the QR code for the coupon in your UnionPay app to the cashier before paying. You’ll receive a 30% discount, up to a maximum of 200 Yuan.
Important Notes:
One Coupon Per Person: Each person can only use one hotel coupon during the promotion.
No Cash Value: The coupon cannot be exchanged for cash and cannot be split across multiple transactions.
Check Expiry: Always check the specific expiry date in the “My Coupons” section.

According to officials from the Hainan Provincial Department of Tourism and Culture, more coupons for attractions, hotels, B&Bs, travel agencies, rural tourism spots, and tourism products will be released through the “Cool Tour Hainan” platform in the coming months.
