The list for the second round of “Double First-Class” universities and disciplines construction was announced on Feb 14. Among the list was the discipline of crop science of Hainan University.
The discipline of crop science of was established in 1958. It is the only important discipline in China with rubber and other tropical crops as the main research objects.
The research content of this discipline matches with the national strategy during the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) period very well. Natural rubber is an important strategic resource in China, while cassava is not only the basic ration of 800 million people in the world, but also the main raw material of fuel ethanol in China.
At the same time, in order to ensure the safety of the national farming industry, the discipline also actively carries out scientific research, including the protection and innovation of tropical crop germplasm resources.
This discipline has an outstanding performance in personnel training, faculty building, scientific research achievement conversion, social service level and other aspects.
