Haikou’s charming Qilou Old Street is preparing to for the upcoming 2023 Haikou Children’s Drama Carnival. Organized by the Hainan Performing Arts Group, the carnival promises a fascinating fusion of drama and the scenic allure of Haikou.
The festivities will playout across seven distinct segments, each promising a unique facet of artistic expression. From children’s stage play exhibitions, immersive theatrical presentations, environmental drama parades, and more, the carnival aims to capture the multifaceted realm of drama. The event includes script reading and sharing sessions along with meet-and-greet opportunities with creators.
Spanning a 10-day period from August 18th to August 27th, the carnival will cover 14 commercial districts and 6 rural tourist destinations. With over 50 theatrical showcases, including immersive performances, children’s drama readings and actor interactions, the carnival seeks to spotlight the captivating essence of theatre. It offers residents and tourists a chance to explore Haikou’s aesthetic charm while absorbing the rich cultural and artistic tapestry.
Leveraging Haikou’s existing cultural and tourism resources, the carnival serves as a platform to foster art appreciation, education and participation among young audiences. Its offerings span a wide spectrum, offering teenagers and children an entrancing glimpse into the world of theatrical arts.
The event boasts a noteworthy participation of prominent domestic performing arts troupes, encompassing an amalgamation of both Chinese and Western cultural influences. Notable performances include “Ode to Autumn,” “Twelfth Night,” immersive acts like “The Gulongdong Pirates” and stilt puppet processions such as “Winter Solstice,” along with roaming performances like “Howling Circus” and the stage play “Myths of Mountains and Seas.”
