Sanya’s 2025 Yazhou Ethnic Folk Dragon Boat Race Set to Ignite the Waters on March 31

Sanya’s 2025 Yazhou Ethnic Folk Dragon Boat Race and Ethnic Culture Festival is making waves again on March 31, bringing speed, tradition, and community spirit to the Ningyuan River in Yazhou District, Sanya.

This high-energy competition will see 12 elite teams from across Hainan Province battle it out in a thrilling 400-meter sprint, with nearly 200 athletes paddling at full force.

Location: Ningyuan River Bank Road, Yazhou District, Sanya (三亚市崖州区宁远河河堤路).

The race will feature two categories: a men’s division and a mixed-gender division. The top six men’s teams will take home cash prizes ranging from 10,000 to 3,000 yuan, while the top three mixed-gender teams will win between 4,000 and 2,000 yuan.

Beyond the competition, the event will also showcase the rich cultural heritage of Sanya through the ‘March Third Festival Traditional Chinese Culture in Yazhou’ celebrations.

Spectators can immerse themselves in local traditions with performances of ancient ballads, Li ethnic dances, and intricate Li brocade weaving demonstrations.

Adding to the festival atmosphere, a themed food street will feature local Yazhou delicacies such as Gangmen-style rice noodles, pandan-flavored cake, and fresh blue crab rice.

A Unique Blend of Sports, Tourism, and Cultural Heritage

According to event organizers, the dragon boat race serves as a gateway for visitors to explore the natural beauty and cultural depth of Yazhou and the Ningyuan River region. The event blends sports, tourism, and intangible cultural heritage, creating an great experience for both participants and spectators.
