Where Can You Fly Direct From Haikou in 2026?

Haikou has a growing international network, particularly across Southeast Asia, but the headlines do not show how often the flights operate, whether they stop elsewhere, or how much flexibility travellers actually have.

Haikou Meilan International Airport reported on 4 August that its international and regional passenger throughput had passed one million for 2026. The airport said it had operated 42 international and regional passenger routes serving 28 overseas cities so far this year. The figure includes Hong Kong and Macao within the airport’s international and regional network.

Southeast Asia is Haikou’s strongest market

Bangkok, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Jakarta have the most useful schedules for residents starting in Haikou. Hainan Airlines lists three daily non-stop flights from Haikou to Bangkok Suvarnabhumi.

For Singapore, some Hainan Airlines flights begin in Lanzhou, Yichang or Changchun before stopping in Haikou. A passenger boarding at Meilan still flies non-stop from Haikou to Singapore because Haikou is the final Chinese stop. Together, the four Hainan Airlines flight pairs provide 18 scheduled Haikou-Singapore sectors each week.

Hong Kong has the most departure options

Hainan Airlines lists three daily non-stop Haikou-Hong Kong services. Cathay Pacific also operates the route. Hong Kong therefore offers more departure options than any other international or regional destination in the current Haikou schedule. It also provides access to a much wider onward network, although a separate onward ticket does not provide the same missed-connection and baggage protection as a single through-booking.

Tokyo is served only once a week, on Mondays. That can work when the dates line up, but it leaves little flexibility if the flight is cancelled or plans change.

The long-haul network is real, but thin

Haikou has non-stop services to London, Moscow, Sydney, Melbourne, Auckland and Jeddah. It also has one-stop services to Madrid and Seattle.

Most operate only once to three times each week. That makes them useful when the timetable fits, but much less forgiving when a meeting changes, a flight is cancelled or the return date does not align.

The Moscow service is scheduled to increase from three to five weekly flights from 3 September, adding Thursday and Sunday departures.

Madrid is served once a week via Chongqing under flight number HU7971/HU7972. London also has a twice-weekly service via Changsha under HU7963/HU7964.

Both are one-stop through-services rather than non-stop flights. The published information does not confirm whether passengers remain on the same aircraft at the intermediate stop.

Direct does not always mean non-stop

TermWhat it means
Non-stopThe aircraft leaves Haikou and reaches the overseas destination without landing elsewhere.
One-stop through-serviceThe itinerary keeps the listed flight number but lands at an intermediate airport.
Connecting itineraryThe passenger changes flight number, aircraft or airline during the journey.
Non-stop from HaikouA flight may begin in another Chinese city, but there is no further stop after the passenger boards in Haikou.

Haikou-Chongqing-Seattle and Haikou-Chongqing-Madrid are one-stop services. Chongqing-Haikou-Auckland is non-stop for the passenger boarding in Haikou because Haikou is the final stop before Auckland.

This distinction affects journey time, baggage handling, immigration procedures and disruption options. Passengers using a through-service should confirm where exit formalities take place and whether baggage is checked through.

Check five things before booking

Check the airport code. Bangkok Suvarnabhumi is BKK. Don Mueang is DMK. A route to “Bangkok” does not tell the traveller which side of the city the flight uses.

Check whether the service is non-stop. Madrid and Seattle both include a Chongqing stop.

Check operating days in both directions. Timetable days are shown in local time and may differ between outbound and return services.

Check the live airline sales system. The seasonal timetable shows the planned network, not a guarantee that every flight will operate on every date.

Check the fallback. A once-weekly flight may be attractive when it operates, but the practical alternative after a cancellation may involve another Chinese hub.
