How to get hospital treatment in Haikou at People’s Hospital

Welcome to the International Primary Care Clinic at Haikou People’s Hospital! We are pleased to have this opportunity to serve you and take care of your healthcare needs and those of your family members. In case of medical emergency, call “120” or go to the nearest emergency department.

Our bilingual staff can provide primary healthcare services in English and Chinese for all ages, from infants to older adults, including routine prenatal care, well child exams, adult physical exams, travel medicine, and diagnosis and treatment of many common health problems. Located in one of the largest hospitals in Hainan province, we can also conveniently refer you to one of the many specialists available in our hospital or give you advice about where else you could go to seek care. Dr. Tim Stephens, the clinic director, is a board-certified U.S. family physician who previously worked in the Boston area. Our other Chinese physicians have all received international-level medical training.

We are conveniently located across the street from the East Gate of Hainan University, near the intersection of East 5th Street and Renmin Avenue.

Morning:         Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM

Afternoon:      Monday to Friday, 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM

Some of our non-Chinese-speaking patients may encounter difficulties understanding how to navigate the health care system in China. Our staff would be very happy to help if you have any questions, such as how to schedule appointments, how to pay for your health care, how to arrange an appointment with a specialist, where to go for certain tests, or how to obtain your results. We would be happy to assist you in any way that we can

 

Tips for a smooth visit process:

Please call during regular business hours to make an appointment.

Please arrive 20 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment time. Patients without an appointment will be seen on a first come, first serve basis after those with appointments. Patients who arrive more than 20 minutes late will be seen at the discretion of the physician or rescheduled to another time.

Please bring all of your current medications, including vitamins and herbal or Traditional Chinese Medicine products. Please bring any relevant test results, doctor’s reports, and immunization records.

For patients with difficulties with mobility: please call in advance as we would be happy to assist you in providing wheelchair service from the main entrance of the Outpatient Clinic building to our clinic.

 

If you are planning your first to our clinic, please be sure to bring with you a copy of your passport. You should first come to the patient registration desk on the ground floor of the Outpatient Clinic Building of the hospital. You will need to write down some basic information including your name and passport number in order to register for a hospital patient ID card. This card will be used every time you come for medical care in our hospital, including obtaining test results. We recommend you take a photo of your ID card and/or write down your patient ID number in a safe location for future reference in case of a lost / stolen card. When obtaining your patient ID card, you will also pay a registration fee for your visit to the international clinic.

Please proceed up the escalator or elevator to the 4th floor. We are located next to Ophthalmology and across from Dermatology. Upon arriving in our waiting area, please present your registration receipt to one of our English-speaking nurses. Please check your name as printed on your receipt is spelled correctly and notify our nurse of any changes. She will ask you to complete a new patient information form and check your weight, height, temperature, and blood pressure before leading you to the doctor’s exam room. If you have any special needs such as hearing or vision impairment, please kindly notify our staff and we will be happy to accommodate you.
