Wanning is set to become Hainan’s sporting hotspot this September, with a diverse line-up of events ranging from beach frisbee to a marathon run, badminton, and golf.
Beach Ultimate and Rainforest Marathon
The action kicks off September 20–21 with the 2025 China Beach Ultimate Frisbee Open (Wanning stop), which also doubles as the national selection for the World Beach Ultimate Championships. To be held on the scenic Shenzhou Peninsula, the tournament follows a five-a-side mixed team format and is expected to draw around 300 athletes from 16 teams across the country.
Running enthusiasts can look forward to the 2025 Wanning Xinglong Tropical Rainforest Marathon, also on September 20. The event offers three categories—full marathon, half marathon, and a fun run—with around 800 participants expected to take part.
Badminton Elite Tour

Badminton takes center stage the same weekend with the 2025 Asian Badminton Elite Tour “China Sports Lottery” Cup amateur qualifiers at the Xinglong Zhong’ao Hainan Comprehensive Training Hall.
Open to players aged 15–65, the competition will determine 16 qualifiers who advance to the main draw. On September 27, those winners will go head-to-head with eight international stars, including Olympic champion Zhang Nan, former world champion Li Junhui, and Korea’s Lee Dong-keun, at Wanning’s Culture and Sports Square. The main event will also feature exhibition matches pairing professional athletes with amateurs for some lighthearted entertainment.
Golf Tournaments

Golfers have two major tournaments to look forward to later in the month. From September 26–29, the Xinglong Oak Forest Golf Club hosts the 2025 Hainan Golf International Youth Open, welcoming players aged 6–22 from China and abroad. The winner secures a place in the main draw of the 2025 Hainan Golf Open European HP Tour. Meanwhile, the 2025 Hainan Provincial Youth Golf Tour Finals will take place at the Shenzhou Peninsula Golf Course, featuring about 200 young competitors across multiple age divisions.
First launched in 2009, the Hainan Golf Open has become one of China’s most influential tournaments. This year introduces a new dual-track format, combining professional competition with youth development, and will span both Wanning and Sanya. The goal: to showcase world-class golf while boosting sports tourism and related industries.
