The inaugural Haikou Intangible Cultural Heritage Creations Festival is set to take place from December 1st to 3rd along Zhongshan Road in Qilou Old Street, as announced by the Haikou Tourism and Culture Bureau. The festival aims to showcase and explore Haikou’s rich traditional culture through various interactive activities.
Among the planned events is the Art Supermarket, an innovative marketplace with a focus on intangible cultural heritage. This initiative aims to provide a unique perspective on consumerism, offering a platform to appreciate Haikou’s cultural treasures. Additionally, the festival will feature an Electronic Music Party, blending Hainan’s traditional lion dance with contemporary beats from local DJs.
A key aspect of the festival is the direct interaction between intangible cultural heritage custodians and the younger generation. Attendees will have the opportunity to hear first-hand the stories behind these traditional skills, fostering dialogue and understanding between different age groups.
Beyond entertainment and cultural exchange, the festival seeks to integrate intangible cultural heritage into everyday life. From schools to communities and scenic spots, the initiative aims to engage a diverse audience. The goal is to make intangible cultural heritage a seamless part of daily experiences, allowing people to appreciate its charm and artistry in practical ways.
Save the dates – December 1st to 3rd – as Haikou invites everyone to explore and experience the living legacy of its cultural heritage with an opportunity to delve into the past while embracing a dynamic cultural future.
