WeChat Expands Video Sharing Capabilities to 5 minutes in Latest Update

In a significant move to enhance user engagement, WeChat has introduced a new feature allowing users to share longer videos on their Moments feed. This update, announced on March 11, 2025, extends the maximum video length from the previous 30 seconds to an impressive 5 minutes.

The new feature offers several improvements to the video sharing experience:

  1. Users can upload videos directly from their phone’s gallery or use WeChat’s built-in camera.
  2. Videos up to 5 minutes in length can be shared without trimming.
  3. Longer videos can be edited to fit the 5-minute limit.
  4. After posting, users can adjust playback speed and use a progress bar for navigation.
  5. Videos can be enhanced with emojis, text overlays, and background music.

This update reflects WeChat’s strategic push into the short video domain, aiming to compete with popular video-sharing platforms. By increasing the video length limit, WeChat is lowering the barrier for content creation and potentially attracting more creators to its platform.

The move comes as part of WeChat’s ongoing efforts to diversify its features and maintain its position as a comprehensive social media and messaging app. In addition to extended video capabilities, WeChat has also introduced other user-friendly features, such as bulk deletion options for photos and videos, helping users manage their device storage more effectively.
