Yang Junyan, associate professor at Hainan University, Comprehensive Intermediate Chinese and Elementary Chinese Listening

Comprehensive Intermediate Chinese takes into account language form and communication needs, and involves many aspects such as pronunciation, Chinese characters, vocabulary, grammar, function, and culture.

The course emphasises “use” in vocabulary and grammar teaching, focusing on the rules for using words and grammar items, possible errors students may make and how to use them correctly.

in terms of skills, emphasis is placed on the comprehensive abilities of listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Increasing writing practice will gradually improve students’ ability to communicate in Chinese correctly and appropriately.

“Basic Chinese Listening” focuses on laying a solid language foundation and cultivating application skills, especially the ability to use Chinese for discourse analysis and communication. The content of the textbook is interesting, easy to understand, is step-by-step, focusing on the training of pronunciation and intonation, and combines listening and speaking.

To enable students to understand simple and clear conversations in slow Mandarin in different situations of daily life, to understand the basic intention of the speaker in a specific context, and to briefly narrate and discuss relevant topics

This major is mainly based on the Chinese courses, supplemented by various elective courses.

Speak more and practice more, apply what you have learned. Classrooms are lively, and happy, and after-school activities are rich for experiencing Chinese culture.
