In an effort to enhance the duty-free shopping experience for island-bound tourists, Hainan Island has introduced that the "Guarantee Delivery" and "Instant Purchase and Pick-up" methods are now available for tourists purchasing duty-free goods from Hainan's duty-free shops.

In a move aimed at supporting the development of the Hainan Free Trade Port as an international tourism and consumption centre, the duty-free pickup point for travellers departing Hainan Island by rail and, or, ferry will open on March 23rd at Haikou South Port (海口南港), according to the Hainan Daily.

March 1st, the Haikou Municipal Natural Resources and Planning Bureau issued the "Industry Map for Innovative Development of Haikou's Marine Economy, the goal of which is to set the direction for future development as well as coordinate the spatial layout of the city's marine industry, accelerate the upgrading and adjustment of the industry, promote precise investment attraction and project implementation, and support the development of regional marine industry brands.

On February 28th, the Haikou Jiangdong New District Management Bureau and the Haikou Foreign Experts Bureau jointly hosted a Foreign Talent Open Day event in Haikou Jiangdong New District. Amidst the rich aroma of local Hainan coffee beans, foreign talents from Hong Kong, Europe, North America, and Southeast Asia shared their vision and hopes for studying, working, and developing in the Hainan Free Trade Port.

A new air cargo service connecting Haikou with Incheon in the Republic of Korea (ROK) was launched on Sunday. It flew on the first all-cargo route opened by Haikou City's Meilan International airport in 2023.

Hainan Province has announced "Ten Measures to Open Hainan Free Trade Port's Professional Service Market to Hong Kong" to promote institutional opening up and optimise the business environment. The "Ten Measures" are part of Hainan's plan to accelerate the opening up and innovation of trade in services and promote deep cooperation between Hainan and Hong Kong in the field of professional services.

For Hainan, the restart of outbound tourism brings not only opportunities but also challenges as it must compete once again with established tourism destinations like Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, Southeast Asia, Japan and South Korea.

Hainan Island is being promoted as a prime travel & investment hub for Hong Kong retailers. With a focus on consumption and economic growth, the island has drafted new policies to make it easier for Hong Kong retailers to enter its consumer market.

Preparations are underway for upcoming third China International Consumer Products Expo (CICPE) which is scheduled to be held from April 10 to 15 in Haikou.
