Cooler Weather Expected Across Hainan This Week
According to the Hainan Provincial Meteorological Observatory, a dry cold air mass will affect Hainan from January 5 to January 9, bringing cooler temperatures and generally stable weather conditions across the island.
General Conditions
For most of the week, Hainan can expect partly cloudy to mostly clear skies. Temperatures will trend downward, with the most noticeable cooling expected toward the end of the period. Day–night temperature differences will be relatively large, especially inland.
Temperatures on Land
January 8–9 (coolest period):
Central and western mountainous areas: overnight lows of 6–8°C
Other parts of the island: overnight lows of 9–14°C
Daytime highs:
North of Wuzhi Mountain: approximately 18–21°C
South of Wuzhi Mountain: approximately 22–25°C
Mornings and evenings will feel distinctly cool by local standards, particularly in higher elevations.
Fire Risk
Dry air and stable weather will also increase forest fire risk across much of Hainan between January 5 and 9. From January 7 to 9, some locations, including parts of Changjiang, Baisha, Dongfang, Ledong, Baoting, and Sanya, may reach Level 4 fire risk, indicating conditions where fires can ignite and spread more easily.
What this means for residents and visitors:
Expect comfortable daytime weather but noticeably cooler mornings and evenings, especially inland or in higher terrain. Those planning marine activities should monitor local advisories closely, particularly in southern offshore waters, and outdoor activities should be mindful of elevated fire risk later in the week.
