Although Typhoon “Lanhu” has moved on, Hainan is still in for plenty of rain this week. Showers and thunderstorms will be common, so it’s a good idea to keep rain gear handy when heading out.
On land:
From September 1-5, the South China Sea monsoon trough will bring cloudy skies with frequent showers and thunderstorms across the island. In the western and northern parts of Hainan, expect stronger afternoon storms, with brief but intense downpours possible in some areas.
At sea:
During the same period, the Beibu Gulf, waters around Hainan Island, and the seas near the Xisha, Zhongsha, and Nansha Islands will see winds of force 5–6, with gusts reaching 7–9 during thunderstorms.
Weather reminders:
Western and northern towns may see localized heavy rain and strong convective weather. If you’re planning outdoor activities, keep an eye on weather alerts and take precautions.
Thunderstorms at sea will bring strong gusts, so vessels should stay alert to changing conditions and ensure safe navigation.
