The Venue

Haikou Wuyuanhe Stadium

Opened in 2018, Haikou’s Wuyuanhe Stadium is an architectural landmark in Haikou designed by von Gerkan, Marg and Partners. Seating over 41,000 spectators, the venue’s sweeping asymmetrical design evokes the shape of a wave or shell, perfectly complementing its coastal location.

Key features include:

Ocean Views: The western grandstand overlooks the South China Sea, offering striking views.

Asymmetrical Layout: The structure gradually lowers from west to east, ensuring maximum ocean-facing seats.

Natural Cooling: Shading and ventilation systems are tailored to Haikou’s tropical climate.

Modern Facilities: VIP areas, commercial spaces, and a full athletics track enhance the experience.

About The Lifetimes Tour

The Lifetimes Tour is Katy Perry’s fifth concert tour and her first in seven years, created in support of her 2024 album 143. Launched in Mexico City in April 2025, the tour will conclude in Abu Dhabi in December.

The show is a theatrical spectacle set in a futuristic video game world where Perry battles an AI character called “Mainframe.” Performances feature flying stunts, lightsaber duels, and Perry riding metallic creatures. The setlist spans five “levels,” mixing new songs from 143 with fan favorites like Roar, California Gurls, Teenage Dream, and Firework.

Tourism and Cultural Impact

Haikou’s hosting of Katy Perry reflects Hainan’s growing role as a hub for major international music events. Past concerts, such as Kanye West’s performances in 2024, drew nearly 40,000 fans, 95% from outside the island, and generated an estimated 373 million yuan in tourism revenue.

By staging Perry’s show in Haikou, Hainan continues to strengthen its reputation as both a cultural destination and China’s only tropical island getaway.

Travel and Access

Hainan is easily accessible for visitors from across China and abroad:

High-Speed Rail: A loop line circles the island in just three hours.

Air Connections: Haikou and Sanya airports provide direct flights to major domestic and international destinations.

Visa-Free Entry: Citizens of 59 countries can visit Hainan without a visa under the island’s special entry policy.

A Landmark Event for Haikou

For Katy Perry, the Haikou show will be a milestone, her return to the Chinese mainland stage after almost ten years. For Hainan, it’s another step in establishing the island as a world-class stage for international entertainment.
