If you are looking to get out of the city and explore the Haikou countryside then this is a great spot to put your head down for the night. Even better, it's situated amongst some of Haikou's oldest villages and major tourist attractions.
Water shortage has been a consistent issue for generations in the volcanic region of Shishan. People in the area used to put large pot vats under their roofs to collect rainwater for daily use. With the local terrain being hard volcanic rock it has always been difficult to dig wells.
The cave's lava tunnel runs to 780 meters long, 3-4 meters high with a width of around 20 meters.
Parts of the tunnel roof have collapsed in places allowing light to stream into the tunnel below like a window, open to the dense woodland above.
