Unlocking Central Hainan – Baoting by bus


Baoting Li and Miao Autonomous County is located at the southern foot of the Wuzhi Mountain (five finger mountain) in Hainan.

Baoting has an annual average temperature of 20.7-24.5 degrees Celsius. It has a tropical monsoon climate with an average annual rainfall of 1800 – 2300 mm.

Featuring mountains, dense forests, endless undergrowth, fruits and flowers which bloom throughout the year.

According to online sources, Baoting is home to around 300 different kinds of animals including 10 sub-species of birds.

There is also a strong Li presence in the area, and along with the Hainan dialect, there are around three other distinct regiolects; Qi, Ha and Sai which are all Li dialects.

Where to visit in Baoting?

Qixianling (Seven Fairy Ridge) Hot Spring National Forest Park 七仙岭温泉国家森林公园

Hainan Qixianling Hot Spring National Forest Park covers an area of 2,200 hectares.

The highest peak of Qixianling ridge is about 1,126 meters above sea level. It is one of the most well-preserved tropical rainforests on Hainan Island.

Seven fairy ridge is named for its seven peaks, pointing into the sky like fairy pavilions.

The peaks are covered with primitive tropical rain forests, a natural kingdom for plants and animals.

Opening times: 08:00-16:00 all year-round.

Address: Around the Shipin village farm, 9km northeast of Baocheng Town, Baoting county. 保亭县城保城镇东北9公里处什聘村农场附近

The best time to climb is from November to April, and it is best to avoid the rainy season from May to October.

How to get there?

Take the bus from Haikou Transportation Center 海口总站 to Baoting Station 保亭站, once you arrive, take a taxi from the station. It’s around 13km from the station to the park.

Yanoda Rainforest Cultural Tourism Zone 呀诺达雨林文化旅游区

Yanoda Rainforest Cultural Tourism Zone is only 35 kilometers away from downtown Sanya.

The overall planning area of the scenic spot is 45 square kilometers, and the surrounding area is an ecological restoration zone of 123 square kilometers.

Based around the natural landscape, the zone protects and strengthens the natural ecological environment of the scenic spot, while integrating excellent cultural concepts such as primitive ecological green culture, Li & Miao culture, Nan medicine culture and folk culture.

At present, scenic areas such as the Rainforest Valley, Dream Valley and No.1 Rainforest Resort have been built within the park. These scenic areas are packed with adventure, entertainment, shopping and unique dining experiences.

Wa ai lu glass viewing platform has a 108-meter-long cable-stayed glass platform and a 257-meter-long glass walkway. The total length reaches 365 meters. Facing a magnificent sea view, the platform is installed on a mountain 200 meters above the ground.

How to get there?

Take the bus from Haikou Transportation Center 海口总站 to Baoting Station 保亭站, once you arrive, take the bus from Baoting Station 保亭站 to Baoting Yanoda 保亭呀诺达.

If you are in Sanya, you can take the bus directly from Sanya downtown. It would also probably be quicker to take the high-speed train to Sanya from Haikou then the bus to the park.

Departure from 06:30 to 19:00. Buses leave every ten minutes to one hour.

Baoting Qianlong Dong (Cave) 保亭千龙洞

Qianlong Caves is located near Qianlong Miao Village, Maogan Town, West of Baoting.

Qianlong Cave is named after the nearby Qianlong Miao Village.

Mao Gan Qianlong Cave is a large karst cave. It has a length of more than 400 meters and is around 20 meters wide.

There is a small stream in the cave, running water and a bridge across the stream on both sides.

The temperature in the cave is cold in spring and winter, and pleasant in the summer and autumn. During the hot summer, the locals like to hangout in the caves to escape the heat.

How to get there?

From Baoting downtown to the cave is 34km, from Sanya downtown to the cave is 78km. It is best to take a bus from Sanya/Haikou to Baoting, then take the taxi from Baoting.

Hainan Binglanggu Li and Miao Cultural Heritage Park 海南槟榔谷黎苗文化旅游区

Binglanggu, Hainan Li & Miao Cultural Heritage Park first opened in 1998, it is graded as a national 5A level tourist attraction and it covers an area of more than 333 hectares.

Binglanggu attracts more than 1.2 million tourists every year and is a multiethnic, multicultural tourist scenic area, cultural presentation experience.

Its Intangible Cultural Heritage Village, Gan Za Li Village and rainforest Miao Village combine to make up an unforgettable travel experience.

How to get there?

Depart from Sanya

Sanya Station 三亚汽车站- Baoting Binlanggu 保亭槟榔谷

The total distance is around 37km and the price of a ticket is 12yuan per person. Buses run from 06:30 to 19:00, leaving every 5 minutes to 1 hour.

Depart from Haikou

Take the bus from Haikou transportation centre 海口总站 to Baoting Station 保亭站,then take the bus from Baoting Station保亭站 to Binlanggu保亭槟榔谷.
