Hainan Unveils Industry First ‘Fengdeng’ Seed Industry AI Model

Hainan has announced the launch of “Fengdeng,” a pioneering seed industry large language model. Developed through a collaborative effort between the Precision Design and Intelligent Manufacturing Team of Yazhou Bay Laboratory, China Agricultural University, and Shanghai Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, Fengdeng promises to revolutionize breeding practices and accelerate crop development processes.

Fengdeng integrates cutting-edge artificial intelligence technology, known as Shusheng·Puyu 2.0, with advanced big data analytics. By delving into a vast array of breeding scientific research literature, technical publications, and online resources, the AI model provides insights and solutions across four key application scenarios: variety breeding, important agricultural traits, cultivation technology, and historical distribution analysis.

At its core, Fengdeng boasts four key capabilities. Firstly, it systematically mines and structures extensive knowledge accumulated in China’s breeding domain, effectively consolidating fragmented knowledge resources.

Secondly, it leverages multidisciplinary knowledge graphs to unearth connections between fields such as biology, genetics, meteorology, and soil science, facilitating cross-disciplinary knowledge integration.

Thirdly, its natural language dialogue interface lowers technical barriers, enabling users to ask questions and receive prompt, easily understandable answers, thus enhancing breeding work efficiency.

Lastly, Fengdeng extends its support not only to breeding experts and researchers but also to agricultural workers nationwide, promoting widespread dissemination and application of breeding knowledge.

With its initial version, Fengdeng v0.1, boasting 20 billion parameters, the model has already opened up testing interfaces related to rice knowledge.

Additionally, it has introduced a seed industry large language model evaluation benchmark, providing objective performance quantification references. This initiative, collating professional breeding questions from experts alongside the latest evaluation technologies, aims to propel the “artificial intelligence + agriculture” ecosystem towards greater prosperity.

Hainan’s unveiling of Fengdeng marks a significant milestone in the agricultural landscape. As the AI model takes centre stage, it holds the promise of reshaping breeding methodologies, fostering efficiency, and driving sustainable agricultural development.
