Dragon boat racing, deeply rooted in Chinese tradition, finds an ideal setting in Haikou’s riverside and coastal landscape. The historical significance of this activity in Haikou stretches back to the Ming Dynasty, with intermittent races held until the 1970s, briefly revived in the late 1980s to early 1990s, and has been on hiatus since then..

The Haidian River, known for its calm waters and attractive surroundings, offers an ideal location for the competition. Spectators will be treated to a blend of traditional sport and modern skyline as teams compete for the cup.

To enrich spectator experience, organizers have arranged additional activities including a cultural market showcasing local products and delicacies.

According to the organizing committee, reviving the Dragon Boat Festival races after two decades aligns with efforts to integrate culture, sports, tourism, commerce, and exhibitions in Hainan Province. This move not only honours tradition but also promotes Haikou as a vibrant and diverse sports tourism destination.
