Hainan Opera (Qiong Opera) is a folk opera art of the Han ethnic group in Hainan Province. As a branch of southern operas, Qiong Opera uses Hainan dialect in its lyrics, Hainan hua, thus it is popular only in Hainan Island, Guangdong and Guangxi.
Many types of tropical wood are used to manufacture furniture in Hainan. Yellow Flower Pear Wood (花梨木 Huali Mu) or Ormosia Henryi to give the species its Latin name, is native to the island. The fragrant wood’s attractive grain and extreme durability make it suitable for use in a wide variety of household furniture.
Even after the Li people acquired the skill of cotton spinning, bark cloth did not give way to cotton and hemp products. People continued to use bark to make mats, pillows, quilts, clothes, sashes and hats.
