Hainan offers Incentives of up to 7 million yuan for organizing exhibitions

Hainan Province is taking significant steps to boost its exhibition industry by offering substantial incentives for organizing exhibitions. According to the recently released “Several Measures to Further Promote the Integration of Culture, Sports, Tourism, Commerce, and Exhibitions to Expand Consumption in Hainan Province,” the provincial government is committed to cultivating and introducing new exhibition projects.

The Hainan Provincial Department of Commerce has allocated funds to support this initiative, with incentives of up to 7 million yuan available for eligible exhibitions and conferences.

Provincial-Level Exhibition Fund Management

The “Hainan Provincial Fund Management Measures to Support the Development of the Exhibition Industry” outlines how provincial funds will be utilized. The focus is on supporting the introduction of major domestic and international exhibition brands and cultivating existing key professional exhibitions.

The funds are primarily directed towards:

• Professional exhibitions or conferences hosted or co-hosted by the provincial government.

• Well-established professional exhibitions or conferences that are key to provincial government support (excluding those hosted or co-hosted by the provincial government).

• Professional exhibitions ranked among the top three in the industry nationwide, introduced to be held in the province.

• High-end international professional conferences introduced to be held in the province.

For existing professional brand exhibitions or conferences that are a focus of provincial government cultivation, the organizing unit can receive a reward of up to 5 million yuan.

For top-ranked professional exhibitions nationwide or high-end international professional conferences introduced to Hainan, the reward can go up to 7 million yuan.

Promoting Scale, Branding, and Internationalization

An official from the Provincial Department of Commerce stated that Hainan is actively promoting the exhibition industry towards greater scale, branding, and internationalisation.

The province is working on two fronts: strengthening existing professional brand exhibitions and conferences, and encouraging the introduction of nationally top-ranked and high-end international professional conferences.

From May to December this year, Hainan will host 98 exhibition activities with more than 500 participants each, with 30 eligible projects set to receive rewards.

Achievements and Future Prospects

According to the Provincial Department of Commerce, last year Hainan’s exhibition industry saw significant growth, with a 53% year-on-year increase in comprehensive income. The number of newly introduced projects rose with an improved integration of exhibitions and industries as well as improved business environment.

This year, major exhibition activities such as the China International Consumer Products Expo have already been held.

Upcoming events include the Hainan International Intellectual Property Exchange Conference, the China (Hainan) International Tropical Agricultural Products Winter Trade Fair, the Asia-Pacific Digital Economy Forum, the Jewellery Development Conference and Hainan International Jewellery Exhibition, and the Agarwood and Rosewood International Conference.

Notably, the China (Hainan) International Tropical Agricultural Products Winter Trade Fair, hosted by Xiamen International Trade Holding Group Co., Ltd., will take place in December.

The Agarwood and Rosewood International Conference, hosted by the China Collectors Association and Hainan Daily Newspaper Group, is set to open at the end of November.

By offering these incentives and fostering a supportive environment, Hainan Province aims to become a significant hub for exhibitions and conferences, driving further economic growth and international collaboration.

Applicants must provide third-party event evaluations and audit reports as required. The Provincial Department will conduct a review and, upon verification, will issue the payment.
