On February 4th, the 2023 Spring Festival Meet & Greet for Expats in Haikou was held at the Ceramic Art Museum in Qi Lou Old Street.
The event was held as a cultural exchange to share the traditions of Lantern festival with ex-pats living and working in Hainan and was attended by guests from different corners of the world.
Lantern Festival is an important traditional festival in China which falls on the fifteenth day on the first month of the Chinese lunar calendar and marks the final day of the Spring Festival (Chinese New Year) celebrations.
The venue for the event was the Ceramic Art Museum located at No. 38 Zhongshan Road, where international talents listened to traditional Chinese classical melodies played on the guzheng and erhu, renditions of Su Dongpo’s poetry, Hainan Opera, as well as trying the traditional Lantern Festival snack tang yuan and sipping on locally made speciality tea.
The event was organised by the Haikou Foreign Experts Bureau which runs the Haikou International Talent Home.
According to a spokesperson, the talents home was created to strengthen the management of Haikou’s overseas talents and public service capabilities and improve the level of foreign-related public services. The Haikou International Talent Home is an open and inclusive platform, and its main function is to strengthen friendship, academic exchanges and promote cooperation between talents, cultures and businesses in Haikou.
It also provides international talents with cooperation networking events, policy promotion and consultation, innovation and entrepreneurship guidance and training, government service guidance and assistance as well as personalised services.
It was created under the guidance of the Haikou Foreign Experts Bureau, and to date has held over 50 talent activities.
