New air route opens connecting Haikou to Singapore and Jakarta.

At 03:55 on May 16, cargo plane 2Y-2200 operated by My Indo Airlines took off from Jakarta and stopped in Singapore before landing at Haikou Meilan International Airport (Meilan Airport).

After loading a goods in Haikou, it flew to Singapore at 07:42.

This marks the launch of the first, fifth air traffic freedom rights of all-cargo air routes in the Hainan Free Trade Port.

Air traffic freedoms

The freedoms rights of the air are a set of commercial aviation rights granting a country’s airlines the privilege to enter and land in another country’s airspace.

The fifth air traffic freedom is the right to fly between two foreign countries on a flight originating or ending in one’s own country.

It is reported that the “Jakarta – Singapore – Haikou” route was jointly launched by My Indo Airlines and Cainiao Network.

A B737-400 aircraft will take off in Jakarta every Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday, and land in Haikou on Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday after stopping in Singapore.

The new route will use Haikou as a cargo distribution center to pick up commodities from Singapore and Indonesia, it will act as an “air bridge” for economic and trade exchanges between the three countries.

This traffic right is one of the important ways for airlines to expand the international route network and develop the global market, and it is praised as “the most abundant and the most economically substantial” traffic right by the industry.

The successful opening of this route not only further improves the route network layout of Hainan’s international cargo aviation market in Southeast Asia, but also brings new opportunities to the construction of Hainan’s free trade port.

Currently, Meilan Airport has 7 international and regional cargo routes covering Russia, Germany, South Korea, France, Indonesia, Singapore and Hong Kong.

In the future, Meilan Airport will continue to strengthen the cooperation with international airline aviation logistics by taking advantage of market opportunities brought by the opening of air rights.
