Chen Jie, associate professor at Hainan University, Idioms in Oral Chinese, and New Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK)

Hi, I’m Chen Jie, an associate professor at Hainan University.

I mainly teach Comprehensive Chinese, Idioms in Oral Chinese, and the New Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK).

The “Comprehensive Intermediate Chinese Course” cultivates international students’ listening, speaking, reading and writing skills, as well as communication in Chinese, laying a solid foundation.

In the intermediate stage, students are mainly taught to be able to understand courses taught in Chinese, other people’s conversations about daily life; to be able to describe a thing in Chinese relatively completely and fluently, and to basically form the habit of communicating in Chinese.

They are also taught to read and easily understand written material, understand its general content, have the ability to write paragraphs with complete narrative content, and clearly describe things with smooth flowing sentences.

The “Advanced Chinese Oral Idioms Course” is to help international students understand the meaning and usage of Chinese idioms through a large number of corpora and use them in oral communication.

Chinese idioms are a typical cultural vocabulary of the Han people. They reflect the characteristics of Chinese culture, include profound cultural factors such as the thinking mode and aesthetic taste of the Chinese people, and reflect a way of life and values.

Chinese philosophy of life. Only by extensively connecting with the knowledge of history, folk customs, thinking, psychology and other aspects of the Han People can we achieve a thorough understanding and accurate application of idioms.

This course is an effective way to help students understand Chinese culture and grasp the cultural meaning of Chinese vocabulary through language learning.

The “New Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK) Tutorial” is mainly aimed at students who are preparing to take the HSK Level 5 and HSK Level 6 tests.

It adopts intensive training before the test, and combines lectures with practice. The content of the reading part and the writing part is systematically analyzed and explained, so as to strengthen the students’ grasp of the test and as well as difficult points.

Intensive lectures and multiple synchronous exercises, analysis and summary, practical exercises and other methods are adopted to enhance students’ self-confidence and improve their examination ability and grades.
