Hainan Offers Up to 2 Million Yuan to Boost Sports Tourism and Events

The Provincial Department of Tourism, Culture, Radio, Television, and Sports has unveiled the “Hainan Province Implementation Rules for Rewarding Influential Sports Events,” offering financial rewards of up to 2 million yuan for hosting major sports events.

This initiative aligns with Hainan’s broader vision of developing into a national sports tourism demonstration zone and boosting its free trade port economy.

Reward Structure

The program targets both international and domestic sports events (excluding professional leagues) that attract large audiences and participants. The financial rewards are structured as follows:

500,000 yuan: For events with at least 10,000 spectators or 5,000 participants.

700,000 yuan: For events with at least 15,000 spectators or 6,000 participants.

1 million yuan: For events with at least 18,000 spectators or 7,000 participants.

2 million yuan: For events with over 20,000 spectators, including more than 10% from outside the island.

These incentives aim to encourage organizers to host high-profile events that can drive consumer spending and attract tourists from across China and abroad.

Application Process

Event organizers must complete an initial review with their local Tourism and Culture Bureau at least 15 working days before the event. Applications are submitted online via the provincial government’s “HaiyiDui” platform. The process involves providing third-party event evaluations and audit reports to ensure transparency and accountability.

Once verified by the Provincial Department of Tourism, Culture, Radio, Television, and Sports, payments are issued promptly.

Applicants can submit their materials for incentives online via the provincial government’s “HaiyiDui” platform. The head of the Hainan Provincial Department of Tourism, Culture, Radio, Television, and Sports emphasised that the department will actively support eligible businesses in their applications, ensuring that all measures are effectively implemented.

This initiative aims to create a more efficient and sustainable cultural tourism market, contributing to the stable development of Hainan’s economy.

To access the “HaiyiDui” platform, follow these steps:

  1. Visit the Official Website: Go to the official website of the Hainan provincial government or directly to the “HaiyiDui” platform.

Strategic Goals

This reward system is part of Hainan’s broader strategy to establish itself as a national sports tourism demonstration zone by 2025. The initiative complements other efforts under the Hainan Free Trade Port plan to integrate sports tourism with cultural and economic development.

By leveraging its unique natural resources—such as tropical beaches and rainforests—Hainan aims to attract international competitions in surfing, marathons, golf, beach volleyball, and more.

Economic Impact

The program is expected to significantly boost local economies by increasing tourism-related spending on accommodation, dining, transportation, and retail. Events like the “Haikou Cup” Dragon Boat Race have already demonstrated how sports can energize local communities while attracting visitors from outside the province.

Future Outlook

By combining financial incentives with its natural advantages and free trade policies, Hainan is positioning itself as a leading global destination for sports tourism.

The province plans to introduce more international competition products while building its own branded events in various disciplines such as yachting, e-sports, boxing, and chess.

This initiative not only enhances Hainan’s reputation but also contributes to China’s broader goals of developing a robust sports economy and fostering international cooperation in sports tourism.
