How Long Will Hainan’s Cold and Rainy Weather Last?

Hainan has been experiencing a spell of wet and cold weather, prompting residents to dig out their warm clothing once again. But how long will these chilly and rainy conditions persist? Here’s what to expect in the coming days.

Current Weather Conditions

Since March 6, a wave of cold air has brought lower temperatures and persistent rainfall to most of Hainan. Over the next few days, cloudy skies with intermittent rain will dominate, keeping temperatures on the lower side.

For major cities:

Haikou: 13-17°C, cloudy with light rain

Sanya: 20-27°C, mostly cloudy with some rain

Danzhou: 13-18°C, cloudy with light rain

Qionghai: 16-20°C, cloudy with occasional rain

Wuzhishan: 17-24°C, cloudy with rain

Coastal and island regions, including Xisha, Zhongsha, and Nansha islands, will experience cloudy conditions with moderate to strong winds.

How Long Will This Last?

According to the Hainan Meteorological Bureau, the chilly and wet conditions will continue until March 9. After this, temperatures are expected to gradually rise, with a more significant warm-up starting from March 11. While light rain may persist in some areas, the overall trend points to a return to warmer, more stable weather.

Marine Forecast

The cold front has also impacted sea conditions. The Qiongzhou Strait and surrounding waters are experiencing northeast winds at 5-6 levels, with gusts reaching 7-8 levels. These conditions will persist until March 9, after which wind speeds will gradually decrease.

Looking Ahead

From March 9-11, Hainan’s northern, central, and eastern regions will still see some cloud cover and light rain, while the western and southern areas will begin to clear up. By March 11-13, temperatures will continue to rise, with possible afternoon showers or thunderstorms, especially in the northern and western parts of the island.

For those wondering when they can pack away their jackets, the answer is soon. While a few more days of cool and damp weather remain, Hainan is on track for a gradual return to its usual warm and tropical climate.
