COVID-19 protection guidelines for collection and handling of international mail and packages

Warm reminders from the Haikou FAO.

A number of localities across China have reported positive nucleic acid tests from international mail or parcels. If you are receiving mail or parcels from abroad, please follow the health and safety guidelines below.

Receiving a parcel or mail from overseas

Wear a mask and disposable gloves

Reduce face-to-face communication with couriers

Unwrapping mail or parcels sent from overseas

Disassemble the package in an outdoor area or well-ventilated place

Disinfection should be performed at each step of the process

Use disinfectant (chlorine-containing disinfectant or 75% ethanol solution), thermal disinfection or ultraviolet radiation for thorough disinfection

Do not take the inner and outer packaging home

Packages should be disposed of as “household garbage” after disinfection

It is suggested that mail or the items received remain unused before a certain period of time

Personal protection

After handling mail or a parcel, take off gloves immediately

Wash hands with running water and disinfectant

Dispose of the used mask, and wear a new one

Avoid touching your mouth, eyes, or nose with uncleansed hands, and dispose of the used gloves and masks as “household garbage”

Health Observation

After handling international mail or parcels, practice a 14-day self-health observation

If you have any symptoms such as fever, cough, fatigue, sore throat, etc. Go to the hospital immediately

Report your travel history to the doctor and take a nucleic acid test

While the threat of COVID-19 is still present, avoid making unnecessary mail orders or purchases from high-risk countries and regions for COVID-19.
