Electric vehicle charging infrastructure to improve across Hainan province this year

The Provincial Development and Reform Commission recently issued a “Letter on the Planning and Arrangement of the Charging Infrastructure Construction, Operation and Management Tasks in Hainan Province in 2022”.

It announced that in 2022, the province will build 20,000 charging piles annually, requiring the construction of charging piles in cities, counties, townships, and towns in the province to achieve 100% full coverage.

It also states that at least 30% of townships in each city and county will build a charging station consisting of 5 fast charging piles.

Electric vehicle charging in Hainan

In 2022, Hainan is expecting to increase construction of charging piles in rural towns and residential quarters, expressway service areas and public business areas. The charging infrastructure is set to improve across the island, laying the foundations for Hainan to stop selling conventional fuel vehicles by 2030.

This year, the goal is to build charging piles in no less than 60% of residential areas, and the number of the new charging piles will be no less than 6,000 across Hainan.

The letter also states that 30% of scenic spots across the province are to build charging facilities, of which 5A-level scenic spots should have 100% coverage and 60% of 4A-level scenic spots across Hainan have charging facilities.

Hotels above-designated size in Haikou, Sanya, Qionghai, Wanning, Lingshui, and other popular tourist cities and counties are required to have a coverage rate of no less than 20%.

In order to further rectify and standardise the charging market, over the next year, the Provincial Development and Reform Commission requires that by the end of 2022, all cities and counties repair and clean up faulty and unusable piles.
