Guidelines for contributing as an author to TropicalHainan

Want to write for TropicalHainan?

Well, we want to hear from you! We welcome contributors, so to ensure you have the best chances of your pitch being accepted, here are a few guidelines to get you started.

Our Content
Our content above all seeks to educate and entertain our audience through stories and valuable advice about living and working on Hainan Island.

Contributors fall into a few main categories, these are:

  • Personal experiences
  • Business and personal development
  • Hainan arts and culture
  • Entertainment
  • Travel

Once your pitch has been approved, we will get in touch with you to let you know. After which you can submit your article.

We favour articles that are simple and provide actionable advice for our readers. This will allow them to extract value from your contribution while positioning you as an expert who gives reliable advice. Articles that are “ how to” are great places to start.

While we want your advice to be simple, we don’t want it to be boring, we like articles that are off the beaten track and we can feel your personality through your words.

All articles must be submitted with at least 2 horizontal HD images (up to 4 is fine), even if these images are stock (but not taken from the internet without permission). If your submission has no images, it can not be accepted. All images also need to be free from copyright or be approved for publishing. Any images that are known to be unauthorized will be removed along with your contribution.

Be sure to thoroughly edit your content before submitting. Our team is very small and we have no additional capacity to do detailed editing.

You will be listed as the author of your article. Therefore your article submission needs to include a URL for your site and your preferred email address.

What we don’t publish
Articles submitted are allowed to contain at least one back link that leads to your site. Of course, we want our contributors to benefit from our traffic.

We don’t accept articles that link to 3rd party products and services especially if these links clash with our existing partners. If your articles contain 3rd party links, these links will be deactivated before publication.

We also don’t accept articles that don’t fall in line with our content pillars.

We reserve the right to decline or remove articles that don’t fall in line with our brand values and business objectives.

How to submit Pitches
Submit your pitch to us admin@tropicalhainan.com

Pitches for TropicalHainan should be submitted at least 2 weeks before the expected publish date.
