Hosted by the Haikou Bureau of Science, Technology, and Industry Information (Foreign Experts Bureau), the Qing Song Village government, and other local authorities, the event was a celebration of cultural integration, rural tourism, and educational initiatives.

Day 1: International Language Exchange at Qing Song Village Central School

The event kicked off with international participants visiting Qing Song Village Central School to lead an interactive English class for local students. Through storytelling, English songs, and games, the volunteers sparked students’ interest in English and helped them practice conversational skills. This class not only introduced language learning but also opened doors for these students to a broader, global perspective.

Day 2: Shanlan Rice Music Festival and Cultural Performances

On the second day, the village hosted the Shanlan Rice Music Festival, a major highlight of the event. International musicians and local performers collaborated to showcase both local and global music, creating a fusion of cultural expressions. The evening concluded with a bonfire party, where guests and locals sang and danced together with one participant expressing their appreciation, saying, “I was struck by how beautifully the music blended with the local agricultural themes. The warmth and talent of the community truly shone through, creating a deep connection to their stories.”

Later, calligraphers Cai Kailin and Bi Sijin created artworks on-site in Lao Men Square, gifting their pieces as mementos of the event. Belgian participant Catherine Cooke shared her impressions after helping with the harvest: “Seeing the effort it takes to grow Shanlan rice on the slopes was eye-opening. It’s a beautiful reminder of the community’s dedication, and I’m eager to share this experience with friends back home.”

Collaborative Discussions for Future Development

The event concluded with a discussion forum where international participants, local government officials, and business representatives explored ideas to enhance Qing Song Village’s education, culture, and economy.

Agreements were made to establish ongoing collaborations, including a partnership between the Haikou Talent’s home and the Yongchu Village Party Branch, and a new Haikou International Talent Volunteer Service Point in Qing Song Village. These initiatives aim to foster long-term community support and cultural tourism.

The 2024 Qing Song Village International Talent Cultural Tourism Exchange brought fresh insights, cultural exchange, and international perspectives to Qing Song Village. As Haikou’s International Talents Home and Qing Song Village look to strengthen their partnership, they’re set to contribute further to the growth and development of Hainan Free Trade Port, emphasizing cultural integration and innovative community projects.
