Hainan is currently enduring a sustained period of high temperatures, with most inland and coastal areas forecast to see daytime highs above 37°C through April 24. The provincial meteorological bureau has issued a Level 4 high temperature warning, urging precautions against heat-related illnesses and wildfire risks.
The extreme heat affects all major regions across the island, with temperatures consistently ranging from the mid-30s to nearly 40°C. Nights remain warm, with lows typically between 22°C and 26°C.
Relief is on the horizon. Starting the night of April 24, a weak cold air system is expected to bring scattered showers and thunderstorms across much of the island. Between April 25 and 26, some areas may experience more intense convective weather, including thunderstorms, strong winds, and short bursts of heavy rain. These conditions are likely to ease the current heatwave.
Marine and coastal areas are also experiencing elevated temperatures and moderate southerly winds, with occasional gusts reaching up to force 7–8 during thunderstorms.
Mariners are advised to remain cautious, especially around the Qiongzhou Strait and the waters near the Xisha, Zhongsha, and Nansha islands.
