Boao Forum for Asia Announces 2024 Annual Conference

In a press conference held today (Jan 16), Boao Forum for Asia Secretary-General Li Baodong unveiled the details of the upcoming 2024 Annual Conference, scheduled to take place in Boao, Hainan, from March 26th to 29th. Li outlined the conference’s theme as “Asia and the World: Shared Challenges, Shared Responsibilities.”

The conference will feature four major sections covering “World Economy,” “Technological Innovation,” “Social Development,” and “International Cooperation,” encompassing numerous topics aimed at fostering unity and cooperation. Li stressed the forum’s objective to advocate for increased collaboration, rebuilding confidence, and promoting peace and development.

In addition to the annual conference, The Boao Forum for Asia is set to organise various significant events throughout the year, including forums on global health, international science and innovation, global economic development and security, as well as global urban green development and rural revitalisation. The forum’s continued focus on Asian economic integration, green development, technological innovation, and the digital economy will be evident in specialised reports presented during these thematic events.

Secretary-General Li Baodong highlighted China’s pivotal role in global economic growth, stating that China remains a major engine for such growth. Despite global challenges such as weak economic recovery and increased external risks, China’s economy continues to exhibit resilience, substantial potential, and vibrant dynamics.

Li also pointed out that institutions like the IMF and OECD have raised their growth projections for the Chinese economy, acknowledging China’s significant contribution to global economic growth.

In his concluding remarks, Li stressed the importance of unity, cooperation, shared responsibility, and facing challenges collectively, not only for Asia but for the entire world.

He stressed the need for a shared destiny community, advocating for the construction of a global village where shared prosperity is the common goal, emphasising a collaborative approach over division.
