Hainan Island and Volkswagen Strengthen Ties for Future Mobility Ventures

HAIKOU 11-12-03 – The Hainan government and Volkswagen Group China are set to bolster their collaboration in the automotive and mobility sectors, as evidenced by a comprehensive framework agreement inked during the 2023 World New Energy Vehicle Congress.

Underlining their commitment to the “In China, for China” strategy, Liu Yunfeng, Executive Vice President of Volkswagen Group China, explained this new phase of cooperation with Hainan province. The agreement encompasses a broad spectrum of initiatives, including mobility services, vocational education, and marketing projects, all aligned with the opportunities arising from the Hainan Free Trade Port (FTP).

In Liu Yunfeng’s words, “Together with our partners, we look forward to playing a significant role in promoting the economic and industrial development of Hainan province.”

Chen Zhixin, Vice-Chairman of Hainan New Energy Vehicle Industry International Expert Advisory Committee, hailed the agreement’s potential to infuse new energy into the development of intelligent new-energy vehicles, contributing to economic and social progress in Hainan province.

Ralf Brandstatter, member of the management board of the Volkswagen Group, met with Feng Fei, party secretary of Hainan, during the agreement signing. With a focus on deeper and more solid collaboration, Feng Fei stated that, “Hainan will do its best to ensure all services and effective implementation of practical cooperation,” emphasising the region’s commitment to facilitating mutual growth and exploration of new opportunities with this venture.
