Hainan Issues Level 4 High Temperature Warning: What You Need to Know

Hainan Province issued a level 4 high-temperature warning on May 3rd. The Hainan Provincial Meteorological Bureau expects that on May 4th (today), Yangpu District as well as Ding’an, Tunchang, Chengmai, Danzhou, Lingao, Baisha, Changjiang and Dongfang, nine cities and counties in total, will experience high temperatures of 37 degrees Celsius or above, as the island prepares to face one of its hottest days this year.

Businesses, schools and local governments have been advised to take measures to prevent heatstroke, accidental drowning and forest fires. The warning also includes weather forecasts for the coming days, with the following information being released:

From the night of May 4th to the daytime of May 5th, the western part of Hainan will be partly cloudy with temperatures ranging from 24-26 degrees Celsius minimum to 37-39 degrees Celsius maximum.

From the night of May 5th to the daytime of May 6th, the northern and western parts of Hainan will be partly cloudy with temperatures ranging from 27-29 degrees Celsius minimum to 37-39 degrees Celsius maximum.

Weather trends for the next 4-7 days show that from the night of the 6th to the 10th, the whole island is expected to be cloudy, with showers or thunderstorms in most areas. There will be local heavy rain accompanied by strong thunderstorms, strong winds, and short-term heavy precipitation on the 7th to 8th.

In light of the warning, it is advised that people take precautions to stay cool and hydrated during the hot weather, especially during peak hours of sunshine.

It is also important to take measures to prevent heatstroke, such as avoiding strenuous outdoor activities during the hottest hours of the day and wearing loose, light-coloured clothing.
